Disapointement in Calgary....

After the Nations Cup the disappointment is big. Niels Bruynseels had to go as first into the ring. Carpallo had shown his best side already the whole week. Also in the Nations Cup he showed his quality but he over jumped one fence and didn’t make the width of it. The 17 points he got were very heavy. Strong courses of Rik Hemeryck and Challenge vd Begijnakker (4 points) and Maurice Van Roosbroeck and Dylano (2 faults and 8 points) made them still going to the 2nd round. In that case Patrick could make maximum 8 points. Stress is for Withney a real issue that we have seen already this week. After the class on Friday we hoped that it would all have been solved. She came in yesterday and for me it looked obvious. Her head was high, she was really spooky and it became a big punishment in the ring. 20 points is a really big disappointment for somebody who’s so busy with the Belgian team. We were also not able to leave the English team (20 points) behind us. Next year there will be no Belgian team going to Calgary and will have to wait for another invitation. We can’t say that they didn’t do everything possible to make this a success. They went for lessons, they trained all together and they gave themselves 200% this week. Also for us we don’t have to find cheap excuses. But if you want to move on in this sport we have to find an explanation. We knew that stress was a big issue for Withney but we had it under control these last few months. Changed the food and changed her training. This time we were not aloud to take our own food with to Calgary so maybe the different food she got this week could be one of the reasons. Anyway we’ve got so many questions again to bring home and we’re going to work on the solutions this week. We will let everything cool off for a while….
Va-Vite didn’t make any mistake even in the speed derby he did it fabulous. Afterwards it’s always easy to say what if we had Va-Vite in the Nations Cup…
To make less then 8 points in a class like that, that would have not been easy either. On Sunday we will take a step back out of respect for our horses. Patrick want be participating in the 1.000.000$ Grand Prix because he doesn’t have a feeling that he will get in the top 10 right now.
We hope for a Belgian success from Dylano, Quarco de Kerambars or Nasa.
Everybody here in Canada is looking forward to the performances of Eric Lamaze and Hickstead. They won this year already 2 Grand Prix’s of the Jump Series.
If he wins the Grand Prix here on Sunday he’ll get on top of the 325.000 an extra bonus of 450.000$.
