Last year in July, he started with us as a real inexperienced horse and in meanwhile he made some results, won some money and gathered some FEI ranking points.
But Wrangler was always for sale, it was our task to find the best buyer for him.
But every time there was something, not too careful enough or not enough power,… And for us he started to be too perfect to sell him. We also know that we don’t have to become too ambitious with him and think about riding Nations Cup or Grand Prix from 4 & 5 star shows but Wrangler is a horse that you can always take with for the other classes and do well in them. That way the pressure to do well in the Grand Prix gets less.
We don’t always want to be talking about a Grand Prix…. And we don’t want to be hoity-toity or arrogant because we’re aiming for this higher level but you never know if we clime 12 place up in the FEI ranking, till top 100 of the ranking. Maybe the impossible becomes possible then. There is nothing wrong with having a target!
We have worked out a good agreement with Nancy and Jef Van Kerckhoven. An agreement in the positive sense for Wrangler as well. We even thought about his pension!
We have personally done something that we never have done, we bought an 11 year old gelding. With a mare or stallion you can always breed afterwards.
But this time we were happy to make an exception, Wrangler is welcome and will be staying instead of a short while a long while with us.
It’s a total different approach. For example if last month somebody asked to come and try Wrangler we would give this person the opportunity to sit on him even if it was before an important competition.
This is however different now, we’re just quietly going to concentrate on the sport with him and continue to enjoy each clear round that he does.
There are no certainties in life, but sometimes you have to follow your senses and make a decision.
Our feeling tells us that its good .Patrick has always been used to make it with what he has.
We keep on doing it all with pleasure and where we will end up, we shall see!
Make it with what you have and hopefully get far with it!
