Belgian rider Gaetan Decroix 2nd in the GP of Lons-le-Saunier.

Rain in Lons-le-Saunier, and a lot of classes on Saturday we’re cancelled. It looked really bad and many riders didn’t take the risk to stay jumping until Sunday. The ground was quiet bad. It was threatening to turn into a fiasco for the organization, but in the end enough riders kept on jumping on Sunday. It became overall a great organization, beautiful show and a lot of audience showed up.
Because of the cancellations on Saturday they put a lot more money in the classes on Sunday, 20,000Euros in the 1m40class, 50,000 Euros for the Grand Prix, and again 20,000 Euros went to the speed class. So no training rounds were planned….
The most regular Belgian rider on Sunday was Koen Vereecke. He was 5th in the first class (Carlito), 7th in the Grand Prix (Allegro), and 2nd in the speed class (Bush). The most spectacular round was from Gaetan Decroix and Bilitys de la Demi Lune. He already had a little accident in the warm up where he was pushed by another horse 4 meters down into the forest. It really was his "lucky day" because he had not one scratch. In the ring the luck stayed and he qualified for the jump off.
A jump off with 3, where Gaetan had to start as first. He rode a smooth clear round and after that Bruno Garez did it 4 seconds quicker but one fault. The victory went to Bruno Broucqsault. In France, they still remembered that two years ago he ended on the 2nd place behind Patrik and Withney, it became really quiet when he started his jump off. He did it clear and faster then Gaetan!
Where the football players collectively fail for their country, holds Bruno the honour high. And what happened to Patrik in Lons? With a 2nd place on Friday with Wrangler, we had really hoped to set a strong performance again on Sunday in the speed class. Especially with the high price money, the gas pedal was on by the riders.
Looking back maybe a bit too fast…. Definitely the fastest time, but with two faults they ended up on the 9th place. Even with one fault he would have been 2nd... The other riders had certainly not ridden slowly. Spitske, spitske… We tried anyway.
In the 1m40 speed class, everything went well with Rapsody. She ended 8th, victory was for the Italian rider Juan Carlos Garcia also ended up as the best rider of the whole show.
In the Grand Prix Va-Vite had two faults and a misunderstanding on the water with bad distance. The double after the water, which was for most of the riders the stumbling block of the course, but not for Va-Vite, he jumped it really easy. We noticed that the breeding season is more difficult than expected. For Va-Vite this year is the training year to bring him up to a higher level, and we have to bring some things in perspective. He continues to show his class and dedication, but still needs more experience. Who is also highly experienced, and makes her available for the Belgian team is Evelyne Blaton. She jumped a double clear round yesterday (only one point for time) in the Nations Cup of Ypaya (Finland) with Aruba. Along with the performances of Philippe Lejeune, Cindy Vanderstraeten and Gudrun Patteet, it was good for a 2nd place! Good work! There was a discussion about whether the horse of Gudrun had a foot in the water or not in the 2nd round, otherwise the victory might have been possible... Thanks to the Belgian team. We look forward and cross our fingers already for the next Nations Cup in Drammen, the team will be now with 4 men, Rik Hemeryck, Kevin Gielen, Niels Bruynseels and Pieter Devos.
Rik has only little time to be with wife and son. He came back last night from Lons and leaves again this afternoon to Drammen.
Patrik can remain longer at home. He only leaves on Thursday towards Canteleu with Cyber, Butterfly and Etoile M.
