From clown to result holder....

As a rider it’s not always that easy… A lot away from home to find that success. If that success doesn’t come you really have nothing to write about, the show costs a lot of money and it seems that there’s no ending coming at being so far away from home.
We say it all the time; when you do have that success then you should enjoy it and celebrate it as much as you can. It’s not always that easy.
Like last Saturday there was a dinner party, taking about the BWP Auction with another bet and one with success. A dinner party at the Wellington Salons at the Scheldewindeken. Not only a perfect location for a dinner party but also a horse breeder at heart.
The dinner party was organised after the great success of King Wellington during the auction. We were in Kentucky will that auction happened and so we also didn’t go to that dinner party.
Patrick and Andrea Brys would’ve been there together with Marc and Edith Coenaerts (co-owners of Ambassador) and of course also Grandfather Jos and Nanny Noella. Who else would’ve had this bet? Also brewer Nico and Marjan De Wilde were there, suppliers of the party auction.
Anyway it’s a shame that Patrick Brys couldn’t be there because of health problems. I was in the end then the replacer of Patrick Brys. It was more then interesting….
On Saturday evening Patrick still had to ride Cadjanine and Cyber. We follow then with pleasure the results from a distance. When Cadjanine jumped clear and qualified herself for the Grand Prix, it was a big relive… Cyber could jump the Grand Prix and not the six bars. What!!!! Not in the six bars !!! Tell him that he’s a clown!!!! This advice I had to transfer from my father to my husband. Before I said that I told him that he had to do what he thought was the best for Cyber! Also Patrick and Andrea were happy that Cyber didn’t have to jump the six bars because he’s a bit small to do that. David against Goliath….
Anyway this discussion kept on going for a while. ‘You’re going to regret it when you’ve 1 or 2 down tomorrow in the Grand Prix, that you didn’t jump him tonight. It’s easier earned tonight…’
In a six bar class it’s of course easier earned if you’ve the right horse for it…. And it’s not easy to jump a Grand Prix clear and indeed you need a bit of luck to go with it but the motivation by Patrick was there!
Already a few weeks we were looking for that confirmation. And today we’re very happy with that 2nd place in the Grand Prix. They asked Patrick in the press conference witch other important placements Cyber had? Well, we’re building up some results and this is for sure one to write down…
It was weird that in that press conference it showed how much Penelope Leprovost is busy with those results. She remembered that it was already the second time at a show in own country that Patrick push her behind him. It’s correct because the first time it was in Royan with Red Star (also a horse from Patrick and Andrea Brys – Kusakova). That time Patrick won with Red Star before Penelope Leprovost and Topinambour.
Work on results, work on horses. If you like to work with a horse it’s even nicer to enjoy the success afterwards. It’s still very nice for us to see that Cayak DH is still making some very nice results. In the Grand Prix of the CSI ** Hulsterlo was he again in the front row, 4th.
We hear this more and more that ‘we were clowns to sell him that quickly…’ But at the other hand you have to be happy with the success of the buyers. Its choice you make between hope and reality. You have to be able to believe in the quality of the horse (and from the rider…)
They have to pay there way in, in the beginning but in the end they get success. Cayak had a period that he had to get used to the higher level. But once he got there, he even jumped at the World and Olympic Games.
We’re realistic enough to know that next time with Cyber will have to start all over again. A horse or rider is judged by there last performances….
Horses, it’s for sure not an exact science! Nor is the horse sport!
Yesterday he was still a clown and for that will still be laughing for a while. Today he’s just very happy and proud about Cyber. Happy that he got the chance to get some gas in a gas stations in France and that the horses will be home tomorrow! Anyway for a few days….
