What a sport in Hickstead, amazing to see, let's try to learn to do the same..

We are back home from Hickstead. The Nations Cup has been quite a disapointment for ourselves. It went wrong in the second round, where we hoped to do as good as possible for the team. Our mare Cadjanine is not relaxed enough to do these kind of classes, she does have the scope and quality, but it goes all a little too fast. Time to slow down, and to do some other shows at lower level.

We gave the chance to our stallion Va-Vite to jump the Grand Prix. It was the first time he had to do a difficult class like that, but he seemed ready for it.
And actually, he did quite good, and wasn't impressed at all. He had a little fault on the river, the judge has seen something, but it wasn't obvious at all.

It went good till the oxer number 10, there we had a fault. Another fault on the double bidet, 12 points in total. Not a good result, but it gives confidance for the future. With more experience on this level, he will manage to do it clear also.

When we have seen and enjoyed the jump off of the Grand Prix in Hickstead, we realise that this level is another sport as we are used to. We can only learn and try to get our horses into that level.
The jump off of Jerome Hurel was really good and fast, but he ended up only at the 6th place.
The way how Kent Farrington got his victory, we can only say that he deserved to win. The british rider Robert Smith almost kept the victory for his home public with Talan, but they had to be satisfied with the second place.
The third place went to Leon Thijssen and Tyson, a son of Numero Uno.

We know what to do. We enjoyed this sport, and we hope to be back next year in Hickstead. Let's keep our fingers crossed next week for the Belgian team in Dublin.
Let's hope Belgium will survive in Super League, that we can make some progress with our young horses, and that we will be ready next year. It was a lovely show, and a nice experience, but for sure, the results could have been better. The zero is all that counts..
